Our Story

Garten has arrived!

Garten is a natural wine and beer garden.  We source locally and sustainably whenever possible.  Some of our amazing local partners include Binkert's Meat Products out of Baltimore, Lyon Bakery in Hyattsville, Annapolis’s Chesapeake Smokehouse, Pherm Brewing in Gambrills who provides our delicious house beer, and an on site production garden and pollinator hive. The concept and ownership comes from husband and wife team Jeremy and Michelle Hoffman with financial guidance from their friend and business partner Matt Hetrick. All of us enjoy the old world cuisines of Germany, France, the rest of that part of Europe in general and Garten is a modern take on those all of those flavors with cheese & charcuterie boards, kebab, schnitzel, fresh garden vegetables, housemade pastas and pretzels to boot.

All of this is to say that Garten is an amazing gathering place to relax and meet up with friends and family. Kick back, slow down, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Cheers, prost, slainte - however you toast, ALL are welcome. Life is great in the Garten!

    Greg comes to us from Preserve, where he spearheaded the housemade pasta program and numerous sandwich projects, which obviously informs our delicious Garten Burger, sister sandwich to the Preserve Burger. He’s passionate about all things carb-based and excited to pair his food knowledge with our natural wine and beer offerings.

    August spent many years working in and around Washington D.C. (Crane’s Group) and Philadelphia (Milkboy & Milk Boy Art House MD). The unwavering pursuit of his passion for delicious eats with dialed in beverages is what brought him to the SP. His talents and enthusiasm for building teams and great service will make Garten bloom.

    Our bar manager Delaney also joins us from her years at Preserve! With her passion for fresh, seasonal drink offerings utilizing housemade mixers and local spirits, Delaney is mixing up some amazing fresh cocktail concepts for us.

    AM SOUS CHEF

    Joe comes to us with both a savory and sweet background, having worked as a Chef in some of Baltimore’s most respected restaurants after earning his degree in pastry at Culinary School. You can enjoy his handiwork in the delicious dessert offerings and macarons we regularly feature.

    PM SOUS CHEF

    Kendren is a day one employee at Garten that quickly moved up the ranks as a leader. In his down time, he is filling his cup with family nature hikes around the area, a bee colony wrangler and passionate about native MD plants and gardening. He keeps service flowing smoothly in the evenings and creates some of our fabulous seasonal specials to delight all of our guests at Garten.
